Legal sports betting is now active in 20 states plus DC. And while many of these states have drawn up their Nevada-based sports betting laws, some have sounded the audible when it comes to novelty prop betting.

Nevada has long shunned novelties – odds based on unusual results, such as what color Gatorade tossed on a winning coach. Gaming regulators in the US casino capital have preferred to allow odds to only offer lines of outcomes based solely on sports competition.

However, this is not the case in numerous states that have joined Nevada in regulating sports betting. Gaming officers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Tennessee, and West Virginia have signed up to allow their regulated sports betting licensees to offer prop bets on Super Bowl 55.

Super Bowl LV kicks off from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 7th at 6:30 p.m. ET. Defending champion Kansas City Chiefs travels to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on their home turf.

Super Bowl Prop betting

Formerly restricted to controversial offshore sports betting, today millions of Americans live in a state where they can legally place a prop bet on the Super Bowl.

One of the most popular prop bets in recent years has been the result of the coin toss before kick-off. Quota makers in several states have the chance of almost the same money, “heads” and “tails” are both offered at -103 (implied chance of 50.74 percent).

FanDuel in Pennsylvania also has odds on whether the player picking heads or tails is correct. Those odds are -105.

The coin toss is expected to be triggered by Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce, the two captains of the visiting Chiefs team.

DraftKings takes the coin toss even further. Sports betting has a chance that the team that wins the throw will win the big game. Since the Chiefs prefer three points over the Buccaneers, the odds that the Chiefs will win the coin toss and the Vince Lombardi Trophy is +205. The bucs are longer for the scenario with +355.

Bettors in New Jersey, West Virginia and Indiana can place bets on the Gatorade suit placed on the winning coach. Orange is the favorite at +125 and red / pink at +300.

Offshore even more stupid

While regulated sports betting will take some new measures for the 2021 Super Bowl, the offshore locations are again offering many more unusual lines.

Online books have a chance of which song halftime performer The Weeknd will sing first, “Blinding Lights” the leader at +180.

The chances of Eric Church or Jazmine Sullivan messing up the singing of the national anthem by omitting a word are +1200.

Chances are the Super Bowl MVP will be mentioned first in his speech. Choices are his teammates +100, God or Religion +225, the USA +700 and the team’s hometown +700.

Politics is not immune to the betting guarantee. The over / under in relation to the number of times the name of former President Donald Trump is mentioned during the CBS broadcast is 0.5 times. The over / under for the name of President Joe Biden is 1.0 times.
