CARLTON COUNTY, MN – A group of protesters have publicized their opposition to Line 3 in a large cloquet nearby.
A small group west of the Black Bear Casino had a large law enforcement presence near the oil pipeline construction site on Monday.
The protesters said they arrived around 3 p.m.
One of them was reportedly on top of the pipe refusing to get out.
“He climbed the pipe they put in the ground and he’s been on the pipe since about 3pm and refuses to move and refuses to come down,” said one of the protesters.
The Fond du Lac Police and the Carlton County Sheriff were both there.
Enbridge issued the following statement:
Obviously what the protesters were doing tonight wasn’t safe. Our first priority is the safety of everyone involved – our employees, men and women in law enforcement, and the protesters themselves. As a company, we recognize the right of individuals and groups to express their views legally and peacefully. We hoped that all parties would accept the result of the thorough, science-based review and multiple approvals of the Line 3 project over the past six years.
